America is...(show and tell)

My apartment is set up like a shrine of sorts to a pantheon of oddly sutured, American deities. The head of this pantheon - of course - is James Dean. If one had to negotiate who, then would serve as Apollo, Venus, and Hades, to Dean's Zeus, the answer (for me) would be a clear Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac; respectively.

I saw "Rebel Without a Cause" when I was fourteen and it was a revelation. It completely changed my interest in film. Then, a year later, I was reading Kerouac's "On the Road" and fell in love with the Beats. And so I watched "East of Eden," "Pull My Daisy," & "Big."

I even saved up money and went to San Francisco last year, for no other reason, than to sit in Ginsberg's rocking chair in City Light Books and look out at the Bay.
